The Farm - Poultry |
|
Our chickens are sources as day old chicks and reared under heat
for the first few weeks until they are big enough to withstand the
colder air. They are housed in specially constructed, insulated
houses which allow them free access to an outside paddock. We choose
a more traditional, slow growing breed which will take at least
12 weeks to mature rather than the more commercial 6 weeks. This
allows their legs and bones to develop properly and enables us to
offer a bigger chicken to our customers.
Turkeys at Christmas
Newlyns also produce oven–ready turkeys for Christmas. Unlike
the majority of birds, these traditional, slower growing turkeys
are barn reared. Arriving on the farm as day old chicks, for the
first few weeks they are reared under heat before being moved into
large, open sided barns. All our turkeys are dry–plucked,
hung and allowed to mature for 7–10 days, and dressed for
you by hand.
